Westeros: The Riverlands

Riverlands

The Riverlands are the strong, beating heart of Westeros: the fertile floodplain of the Trident, ruled by the honorable House Tully. Tied by marriage to the North and the Vale, the Riverlands are as central politically as they are geographically. No war was ever fought in Westeros that did not cross the Riverlands, and none in which its armies did not fight.

Because of its central position in Westeros and lack of natural boundaries, the Riverlands has been a frequent battleground. The Riverlands is not considered one of the traditional Seven Kingdoms, as at the time of Aegon's Conquest the territory was controlled by the ironborn. The people of the Riverlands are known as rivermen. Bastards born in the Riverlands are given the surname Rivers.
