Hi razorgirl, I have a question regarding my alliance's wall, and some editing that has been going on from non alliance members. What is the easiest way to contact you privately about changing the option on who can edit the page? I created this account just now, because it's become an issue. I'd appreciate any help I could get on this. Thank you in advance. :)
Are they Registered Users or "A Wiki Contributors". If they're Registered Users, we can talk to them about how best to help the Wiki (and that what they're doing isn't helping). If it's AWCs, I can block their IP from making ANY changes to any page on the Wiki until they register.
Either way, sounds like they're breaking Rule 3 of the Code of Conduct, so an Admin can and should take action.
Thank you for your response! A friend to our alliance, Lady Eliza Stark from Thy Lords and Ladies of the North reached out to a friend who is an admin, and he took a look at the situation, and protected the page. It's an AWC, who is a member of a known "enemy" who we've had ongoing issues with. The alliance, Saudad, does not have a wiki page, or any registered users that we are aware of at this time. So, hopefully the situation has been resolved, and we won't have any more issues with our page. Again, thank you for your response, and I look forward to being a contributing member of the wiki in the future.
They stole my name! just joking...anyway, I have extended the block to a 6 month block due to the extreme circumstances of basically continued harassment on your page. We don't need people like that on the wiki...
Thank you Elizabeth! I actually had to do a double take to make sure you WEREN'T Eliza! LOL. I greatly appreciate the care that you guys take to make sure all of our wiki pages are safe, and remain so. I hope you are all having a wonderful day (or night!).
We love it when Alliances come to create a space here about themselves. I'm so saddened that this has been your introduction to creating pages/content here, but thankfully we do have the infrastructure we need to stop this from happening in the (thankfully rare) case that it happens.
Thanks for being understanding. I hope this hasn't put you guys off from contributing to the Wiki.
Absolutely not! We are an extremely loyal alliance, not only to each other, but to the game. We have an absolute BLAST playing, and can normally roll with the punches. This is just something that we weren't expecting to be an issue. Now that it's no longer one, we are happy as clams! LOL.
Razorgirl, Hope you can help me with this. I sent a friend request to someone and it still says pending(6 mts later) Now here is a little sanfu, this Lady is my wife in the game, but I am unable to become friends.(real Life?)lol. So I tried your send request but no good. found my T.Id number but 837372 still could not find anything useful. I started playing on FB but now it's DB, but I am not sure since either format shows same levels. If I play on Kong I start at a much lower level, zip in the power and perm items not saved. Can you help fix or solve this. We have both renic. several times, signed out, reloaded and it did not fix the issue.
you might want to contact DB support to link your profile on kong as well (all platforms use the same server). your tID can be used to create a friend request link but the other player needs to use it.
I was cruising along and bumped into this site (huge fan of the books!). I was wondering if you might be interested in a spiff of the main page? I'd like to transform the section section into content portals, add an about section, gallery of pics, maybe some vids, and see if there are any other assets from the game that might be interesting. Let me know what you think!
We have a test page that we use to road test other ideas; please feel free to use it.
There are some youtube clips that I've uploaded to the Wiki that might be appropriate to use. At some point, I'd like to look at making our own videos to feature on our front page.
I have access to the Quantcast data for this Wiki, and I've tried to implement a visitor's counter into our CSS/JS, but I don't have the skillset so if you could help out with that too, that'd be super awesome.
I try to publish a report every month so that the contributors can know what our Achievements have been, and to give folks something to focus on for the coming month.
If you have any feedback on what we are doing right and what could be improved, please let me know! I feel like I'm flying blind as it's been really hard to get any feedback from folks on what works and what doesn't.
We've had issues with getting our site to work for mobile devices, but I'm not sure if there is a solution for that as Game Guide and other Wikia Apps seem to ignore our CSS and don't allow images to be overlapped. Of course, if you have any advice as to how we can fix that, that too would be awesome.
So glad to have you hear to help us out in any way you can. Any/all help will be gratefully received.
It turns out that time is extremely limited this week, but I wanted to pass by to make sure you didn't think I'd forgotten ;) Next week Wednesday is my goal to work here.
Since I don't see the need for any color theme changes or wordmark update, what I'd like to do is pop all the changes onto the main page, then simply undo to the previous version. Then I can just link the timestamp and you can see the changes as they would appear; the issue with a test page is that the right and left rails don't exist/align properly.
Well, I lied (sort of). I managed to snag some time today to spiff up the test page you linked as well as create a Test Side Rail page for the right rail content.
It's hard to say how they'll look together - there may need to be some content added to the left, but that shouldn't pose much of a problem - but the picture will become clearer once the two pages are combined onto the main page ;)
Let me know what you think!
Also, to the other things you mentioned:
I asked around to see if it was possible to post Quantcast data on the wikias, but it seems there isn't.
For the Game Guide App, the first issue that'll be run into is that of categories. That's what it runs on and it won't show any content that is on a category page. In order to work with the site, all content that is on a category page would have to be moved to a content page (that's kind of ideal anyway). I've done this on multiple wikias and would be more than happy to do it for you.
The second issue with the app - the CSS - is something the Design team is aware of. The App started as "bare bones", so they're going to slowly add more and more functionality to it, but it might be a while.
Getting a better side bar is something I've definitely wanted to get done, but I haven't been able to figure out (and/or devote the time to learn how) to make it work.
So... How do I get your sidebar to be our Wiki's Sidebar?
And how do we add content to show up in the "News" section?
Yeah, I encountered the problem with the Categories when I first started testing the Game Guide App.
I prefer to keep (some) content on our Categories pages, as it means that all the information someone could need is on the one page. I've found working in other Wikis, that having a page with the same name as a Category page just becomes confusing for users, as they have to jump from one page to the other to get the info they want/need.
The Game Guides App doesn't display any of our Nav Bars properly, which means that we have to decide between making our Wiki look cool on PCs and iPads, Vs functionality on the Game Guides App. Right now, I feel that we don't get the visitation through Game Guides to justify stipping the rest of our Wiki down, and that having visual navigation is far more important for our PC and iPad Users.
Apparently there is code that is supposed to go somewhere so that I can then read the Quantcast info regarding visitation of each page - which pages get the most visitation, etc....
There is also a "Badge" that will show visitation data.
Sadly, I haven't been able to get either of these things to work yet. : /
Oh, while I have you, the Wiki has its own Facebook page as well, to help promote the Wiki. While I have no issues with promoting the Game's official Facebook page, I'd like to promote the Wiki's FB page too.
It's all good. Any time you're able to devote to helping us out is well appreciated!
Yes. I like how you've created the Title Bars to help each section stand out. I'm more than happy to have both this as the front page, and the side rail/bar that you created.
Is there a way to make that side rail you designed, the side rail that is seen on every page (except edit pages)?
Re: Quantcast... I've already requested and have access to the Quantcast data, so that I can see (and report upon) the stats for visitation to the Wiki already.
Quantcast has code for an asynchronous tag that we can supposedly insert that will allow me to see the stats regarding visitation to specific pages, and it's that code that I haven't been able to get to work.
There is also supposed to be code so that I can put a badge on the Wiki that will show number of Visits the Wiki gets:
Either Tuesday or Wednesday I'll hop in here and see what I can do ;) Though you've got personal access to the data it *might* not allow badge use because it's private for everyone else. I'll check, though.
For an minor example go to this page on your phone and you should see an image popup.
I also found this extension, for Chrome or Firefox, that lets you switch the layout of websites to their mobile ones.... that way you can mess around with the mobile layout right on the PC ... it's called User-Agent Switcher
It seems, complex templates look awful in mobile app anyway no matter how they were made. I think that's a problem of mobile app, not of templates. It can render just simple constructions. Of course we can try to make our templates simpler, but I think browser look will suffer.
Question is: how to place an image over other image to make them look well in mobile app.
As for css styles, I think we should avoid using css for single cases (for example just to make an item card or reward object). It can be done without css, and it looks the same in browser and phone.
Okay so, one of the things I wanted to do was add more background info to characters (just the events that occur before the books & series... nothing spoilery) + help with adding new characters but then I noticed some pages don't follow the template so I tried to fix things but now I'm confused as to what the standard is....
1. Some characters like Lord Dunstan Drumm have links to minor house pages while some other characters don't.... are we adding pages and categories to all minor houses, only certain ones (like freys, bolton), or none at all?
2. Then there are characters like Lord Eddard Stark that have House categories added to them (for ex.. Eddard has the category House Stark listed)... but on that template page there is that list of fealty categories (stags, ironborn, etc..)
sooo should both be used, an alternate (like those born or married into the house should have the tag House whatever and those that swear fealty to a great house should be listed with the other group?) or only one?
3. Also, with some category pages like Category:Agents the main page has a redirect to the character list while others like with Category:Your Children have a redirect page that go to the category page... (Looking at the history it seems like you added the redirect for your children after the one for Agents)
Agh! This has been a major pain for me to try and figure out. I hate having double pages, so I used to set up redirects to the Category pages. However, one aspects I've tried to consider is that the menu for the Game Guides App relies on Category pages to work, but from what I can tell, if there's content on a category page, it can't be viewed in the App. I've been meaning to sit down with my phone/iPad and monitor how the menu works and what works best, but it was a project I lost track of since I lost my laptop.
So, with all that in mind, if you can help me to figure out which way works the best, then we can go with that.
I'm only peeking my head in here because, well characters were the bane of my life a few months ago.
Just my $0.02 but I don't think characters should be called Dragons or Wolves or Kraken or Lions. I think We should use the extra words and make the categories either Sworn to House Stark or Stark Bannermen.
